First soccer practice!

This "week of firsts" post seems to be dragging on quite a bit! Here is the last of Brady's firsts. On Wednesday of last week he had his first soccer practice. I signed him up for a program called Lil Kickers and he goes once a week for 50 minutes. Up until now we have always done mommy and me activities, but this one he does all by himself. Apparently when they turn 3 you're allowed to turn em loose! He is in a class of 3 and 4 year olds and you can tell he is on the younger end of the range. His attention span is a bit shorter than some of the others. But he really seems to be enjoying it. Again, he had no problems leaving mom. Although when I walked him out to the field for the first class I introduced him to his coach then I pointed to where I would be watching and told him that if he needed something I would be right there. Well, about 5 minutes into the class he comes running over and I asked him if he was ok and if he needed something. He says yeah, I'm ok, I just need "something". I said well what is it? He says oh, just "something". So I said ok, gave him a hug and a pat on the butt and sent him back in and that was the end of that. It's so funny how literally kids take your words.
He did pretty good for the first class. He did spend a lot of the time doing his own thing though. He likes to tackle kids in fun and tackle the ball and do his "crash and burn" bit. At one point the whole class was sitting nicely in the circle and there's my Brady galloping around the circle. Then everyone was playing the game they were supposed to be playing and Brady was standing in the middle throwing the little plastic circles they use to sit on up in the air over and over again thinking it was hilarious. I so badly wanted to be "that" parent and tap on the glass and tell Brady to pay attention and follow the directions. But I restrained myself. This week though he did much better. He participated with the rest of the class for the most part and didn't tackle any of the kids. He did tackle the ball quite a bit still though, so we'll need to work on that. He may just be our budding football player!

He looks so old in this picture!

Here he is just after I dropped him off.

Look closely-you can see him on his belly in front of the coach. This is his "crash and burn" bit.

Here he is galloping around all the other kids who are sitting nicely in the circle like they were told. Dang kid!

And here he is mid tackle! Look closely at the left side of the picture.

Exhausted from all the tackling! Haha!

First Day of Nursery School

Last week my baby started pre-school. He goes to St. Raphaels Catholic Church for 2 1/2 hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I registered him back in July, so we've been talking about it for a while, and I got some books about pre-school to get him acquainted with the whole idea. One of the books called it Nursery School and since then that is what he calls it. His first official day was last Thursday, but they broke them in very gradually. First there was a parent orientation where the kids weren't supposed to attend, but our friend who was going to watch the kids couldn't at the last minute, so we had to bring both the boys. We were totally "those" parents! We got there late with 2 kids in tow. Fortunately it was a pre-school event and they were ok with the kids there. Then the following Thursday there was an open house for an hour during their school time where the kids went in with a parent and got to play with the toys and the other kids and meet their teacher while still having mom there. Then the next Tuesday they had a "split session" where the kids went by themselves, but the class was split in half. Half the class came for the first hour and the other half of the class came for the second hour. Then, finally the following Thursday they went for the whole time all by themselves. Brady absolutely loves his nursery school! He didn't have any issues leaving me-'at a boy! He said hi to his teacher and literally bounced right into the room without so much as a good bye to mom.
Not only did Brady start pre-school but mom started in PTA! It's not official PTA, but with pre-school they expect parents to participate and help out quite a bit. So, they have a program called the Lunch Bunch where the kids get to stay after class and have lunch with their freinds and play on the playground. This is supervised by the parent "volunteers". Brady will get to go every Thursday and I will work the bunch every other Thursday. Well in order to do this, I had to go to a meeting to learn the ins and outs. Then the catholic church really puts you through the rigmarole in order to volunteer or work around kids. So, I had to get a physical, a TB test, attend a workshop on protecting God's children (sexual abuse education), get finger printed and get a form notorized to release any criminal history I might have. So thats all for Lunch Bunch. Then you have to "volunteer" for classroom duties. Each parent is assigned a week to bring snack, then each parent signs up to make a batch of play-dough for the month and I am also a classroom assisstant where I might have to cut things out or prepare stuff for the teachers. So, since we are only going to be here for half the year, I was assigned snack the first week and signed up to make play-dough for the month of September. And, to top it all off, since Brady's birthday was the weekend before school started, I volunteered to bring cupcakes in! So needless to say, the first few weeks of September have been rather hectic! But it's great! Brady is really enjoying his nursery school and I am enjoying my new 2 1/2 free hours to run errands with only one child. Sweeet!

The morning of his split session.

Saying hi to his teacher, Mrs. Bealle, and jumping up and down the entire time.

And there he goes! No good bye mom or anything!

This was after class on the way out.
Brady and I decorated his bag before the first day of school.

This is what he did on his first day.
Here is is on his first official day of school. He was pretty pictured out by this point in the week, so getting him to stand still was near impossible. The following few pictures are of him "being 3".
He's saying look at my arms mom! I'm sticking them through the holes!
Totally cracking himself up! So, I took the bag away and he stood there swinging his arms and clapping his hands. This is the best I could get this morning.

Birthday cupcakes! Mrs. Bealle made him a little crown and everything! Too cute!

Brady's week of "First's".

Brady had a big week last week! He had many "firsts". We started off the week on Monday with his first dentist appointment. Yes, he is 3 and just now having his first dentist appointment. I am a slacker, but more importantly have been mad at our dental insurance company because of a stupid incident 3 years ago (long story and I won't go into the details), so I've been "pouting" and haven't been since. Yeah, I showed that insurance company! Ha! So anyway, after years of nagging from Tim I finally made Brady and I an appointment to get our teeth cleaned. Brady did amazing! We talked about it the night before and I told him everything that they were going to do, so when we got there he hopped right up in the chair and let them do their thing. It was helpful though that they had the movie Cars playing on a big TV in front of him! But none the less, he got a great report from the dentist and didn't have any cavities! Wahoo! They did tell us however to get rid of the pacifier which is a whole other story! So anyway, here he is at the dentist:

Getting his teeth brushed and picking out his new tooth brush.

Mesmerized with "Cars"

So excited about his "treats"!
There is more to come. Stay tuned for the rest of his first's.

Birthday visit from Nana

September was the month for visitors! Tim's mom, AKA Nana, flew out from Kansas to visit last weekend for Brady's birthday. It was a really quick visit-she arrived at 9:30 pm Friday night and left at 7 pm on Sunday night. But we had a wonderful time as always! Saturday morning we got up and opened presents, then Tim and I left the boys with Nana and we went for a date-a 30 mile bike ride! It was great! It has been at least a year since we have ridden together, so it was really nice to be out together. Besides, he had to see if he could still keep up with me. I definitely gave him a run for his money, but he held his own and pushed me quite a bit as well. Ah, good times! Then on Sunday we went to the Baltimore Aquarium. We all really enjoyed the aquarium. My pictures didn't turn out very well and don't do the aquarium justice.
Thanks for coming out for a visit Nana! We can't wait for our next visit!

Poor Nana had to sleep on an air mattress smooshed in Brady's room. This apartment is sooooo small! Brady woke Nana up requesting she read him a story.

Birthday cupcakes! De-lish!

Bike Date-we went for a ride together! Wahooo! Thanks Nana!

Visit from Grandma & Grandpa Mann

Over Labor Day weekend, Tim's Grandparents, uncle, cousin and her husband came out to visit from Indiana. The last time Grandma and Grandpa Mann were in the DC area was in 1968, so we thought we would take them on a tour of the city to see how it has changed. They all really really enjoyed themselves. We went on an all day trolley tour that started at Union Station. The tour was really neat because you could get off and on as many times as you wanted at any of the 19 stops and a trolley came by every 30 minutes to pick you up. We only got off twice-once for our picnic and once for the Korean War memorial. It was really nice to be able to see a lot of sites, but not get exhausted from all the walking. Here are some pictures from our trip. Thanks for coming to visit Mann Fam! We were so glad you were able to make the trip and we had a great time!

Waiting for the trolley at Union Station

Look closely at the lawn of the White House-the Marine One is there to pick up the President perhaps.

Our picnic
We had to get our usual picture in front of the Washington Monument. The sun was right in our eyes, hence all the squinty faces!
